Burgundy
Burgundy, France.
About the region
Burgundy's vineyards form a strip about 230 km long between the Paris Basin and the Rhône Valley, on slopes at 200 to 500 m, with a temperate climate shaped by oceanic and continental influences. Chardonnay covers 57% of the vineyard area and Pinot Noir 34%. The Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Fixin) and Corton, a Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune, are known for Pinot Noir reds; to the north, Chablis grows Chardonnay on Kimmeridgian limestone.
