About the region
The Tequila DO covers municipalities in Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit and Tamaulipas, and allows only Agave tequilana Weber, blue variety. In Jalisco, the main areas are the Tequila valley, on volcanic soils, and Los Altos, in the east of the state, higher up and on iron-rich red soils. The Raicilla DO covers 16 municipalities in western Jalisco, including Puerto Vallarta, Cabo Corrientes and Mascota, plus Bahía de Banderas in Nayarit.
