Piedmont

Piedmont occupies northwestern Italy, at the foot of the Alps that separate it from France and Switzerland, and its climate is continental, with cold winters. In the Langhe hills around Alba, Nebbiolo ripens in October on calcareous soils and makes the Barolo DOCG, southwest of the town, and Barbaresco, to the northeast. Northwest of Alba, Roero has sandy soils and is the home of Arneis.
