Napa Valley, in Northern California northeast of San Francisco, is a valley about 48 km (30 miles) long between the Mayacamas Mountains to the west and the Vaca Range to the east. Its climate is dry Mediterranean, with warm, sunny days and cool evenings; marine breezes off San Pablo Bay cool the south most, in Los Carneros. The Napa Valley AVA contains 17 nested AVAs. Cabernet Sauvignon leads, along with Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
