Michoacán
Uruapan (Charanda Denomination of Origin zone) · Mexico
Charanda is Michoacán's sugarcane spirit with a denomination of origin, made by fermenting and distilling cane juice or its derivatives, such as cane syrup, piloncillo or molasses. The protected zone covers 16 municipalities in the centre of the state, in the Uruapan region. Around Uruapan, the soils are mainly reddish, heavily weathered and rich in iron and aluminium oxides.
