Hyogo is a prefecture in Japan's Kansai region, next to Osaka, reaching from the Sea of Japan coast to the Seto Inland Sea; its southern side has a mild climate with little rain. It is Japan's leading sake producer, centred on the Nada district between Kobe and Nishinomiya, and grows most of the Yamada Nishiki sake rice. The city of Akashi, on the Akashi Strait, makes both sake and whisky.
