Abruzzo
Italy
Abruzzo lies in central Italy, between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso and Maiella massifs; mountains cover more than 65% of the region. The interior has a continental climate, while the hilly strip along the coast is milder. Its main grape is Montepulciano, the basis of the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, grown on hills up to 500 m (600 m on south-facing slopes). Among its whites are Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and Pecorino.
