Maipo Valley
Chile
The Maipo Valley covers Chile's Santiago Metropolitan Region, from the foot of the Andes to the sandy soils of the Coastal Range, with a Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. Its main grape is Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Merlot, Syrah and Carménère. In Alto Maipo, the highest, easternmost part, above 600 m, mountain breezes and stony soils shape areas such as Puente Alto and Pirque.
